New Born
2001, written by Matthew Bellamy
Destroy the spineless
Show me it's real
Wasting our last chance
To come away
Just break the silence
'cause I'm drifting away
Away from you

Rollins band
As today is my ex's birthday, this is the only way I can serenade him; with a song that describes his personality
Liar
1994, written by Henry Rollins
I'll hide behind a smile
and understanding eyes
and I'll tell you things that you already know
so you can say
I really identify with you, so much
and all the time that you're needing me
is just the time that I'm bleeding you
don't you get it yet?
I'll come to you like an affliction
and I'll leave you like an addiction
you'll never forget me
you wanna know why?
cause I'm a liar

As I am abroad for a few weeks, there will still be a daily post, but not as inspired I'm afraid. So here goes for the first.
Young folks
2006, written by Peter, Bjorn & John
i can tell there's something goin' on
hours seem to disappear
everyone is leaving i'm still with you
it doesn't matter what we do
where we are going to
we can stick around and see this night through

Freaky Friday Files
In our series of songs that should never have been released and/or people who should never be allowed near a recording studio....
Cuby and the Blizzards
Once upon a time, in the 1964, in the small village of Grollo, Drenthe, a group of friends lived in a commune type setting and started making blues music. Their leaders were Harry Muskee, known as Cuby, and Eelco Gelling, known as one of the best blues guitarists in the Netherlands (In fact, yours truly was almost named after mr Eelco Gelling, if not for her gender). For a while the most famous junkie, artist and musician Herman Brood, who was not yet famous then, was their guitarplayer.
They had quite some success, even toured with Van Morrison. After taking a break in the late 1970s, the band got together again in the late 90s.

Wayne Fontana
The game of love
1965, written by Wayne Fontana and The Mindbenders
The purpose of a man is to love a woman,
And the purpose of a woman is to love a man,
So come on baby let's start today, come on baby let's play
The game of love, love, la la la la la love
Everyone is entitled to their own personal sexy bitch moment and in 1965 a very stoned seeming young man named Wayne Fontana, born Glynn Ellis, had his.
To be perfectly honest I never even wanted to see more, as all Wayne seems to do these days is occupy his time with conspiracy theories and has been in the news for setting a car on fire with a baillif in it who was about to execute a court order for bankrupcy. Wayne appeared in court dressed as lady Justice, with a sword, scales, crown, cape and dark glasses, claiming "justice is blind.
For me he will however always be that 20 year old sexy bitch crooning his way through The game of love...

Adam Ant
Stand and Deliver
1981, written by Marco Pirroni and Adam Ant
Stand and deliver your money or your life!
Try and use a mirror no bullet or a knife!
And even though you fool your souls
Your conscience will be mine
All mine
Adam Ant, born Stuart Leslie Goddard, became active in the London punk scene in the late 70s. He grew up in London as an only child and is part anglo-romany. Inspired by acts such as Siouxie and the Banshees, he developed his persona of Adam Ant, a word play to the word adamant and a reference to 60s BBC series Adam Adamant Lives! , a show about a Swashbuckler edwardian gentleman, frozen in ice and thawed in the 1960s.
The first incarnation of Adam and the Ants was signed by Malcolm McLaren who talked the other members into leaving the band so he could form Bow Wow Wow. Adam got together with Marco Pirroni and Adam and the Ants as we know them was born. It was however a shortlived but successful career. In 1982 they disbanded out of lack of enthousiasm.
Prince Charming
1981, written by Marco Pirroni and Adam Ant
Prince charming
Ridicule is nothing to be scared of
Dont you ever, dont you ever
Stop being dandy, showing me you're handsome
In the videos Adam Ant generally played a swashbuckling exhibitionist and the Prince Charming video also featured Diana Dors in one of her last on-screen performances.
After Adam and the Ants disbanded, Adam Ant focussed on his solo career and his acting career. He released his last album to date in 1995. Early 2002 he was in the news again for threatening people in a pub with a fake fire arm. In court it was revealed Adam suffers from bipolar disorder. He wrote his autobiography and a documentary was made called The madness of Prince Charming.
In 2003 he recorded a version of Stand and deliver for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund called "Save the Gorilla!".

The Monkees
Hey, hey, we are The Monkees
You know we love to please
A manufactured image
With no philosophies.
You know we love to please
A manufactured image
With no philosophies.
You say we're manufactured.
To that we all agree.
So make your choice and we'll rejoice
in never being free!
Hey, hey, we are The Monkees
We've said it all before
The money's in, we're made of tin
We're here to give you more!
In late 1967 Bob Rafelson, Jack Nicholson and the Monkees got together in a resort in Ojai,California with a huge bag of marijuana and a tape recorder. The result was the script of the movie Head.
Circle sky
1968, written by Michael Nesmith
Yes, it looks like we've made it once again.
It's a very extraordinary scene
To those who don't understand,
But, what you have seen you must believe,
If you can, if you can.
There is no storyline to speak off and it is mostly focussed on their attempts to escape "the box", a symbol for the tv and the image forced upon them.
Daddy's song
1968, written by Harry Nilsson
Years ago, I knew a boy,
He was his daddy's pride and joy,
But when the daddy went away
It was such a rainy day
That he brought out all his toys.
How the momma did explain,
Trying to take away the pain,
But, he just couldn't understand
That his father was not a man
And it all was just a game.
Musically the Monkees are very underappreciated. Their upbeat music often is combined with dark themes, and in the late 60s they were friends with Frank Zappa, who has a cameo in the Daddy song scene.
Long Title: Do I Have To Do This All Over Again?
1968, written by Peter Tork
Can I see my way to know what’s really real
They say time can fix things by itself
I know life’s more than just some kind of deal
Won’t you tell me what all, when my soul comes off the shelf
Didn’t i, oh, didn’t i?
To that we all agree.
So make your choice and we'll rejoice
in never being free!

Evil Superstars
It's a sad sad planet
1998, written by Mauro Pawlowski
it's a sad, sad planet
a sad planet
wasn't it jesus who said it
it's a sad sad planet
Formed in 1992 in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium, the Evil Superstars are an often overlooked influential brilliant band, led by multi talented Mauro Pawlowski. After winning the HUMO rock rally, they gained a reputation for being a terrific live band. Especially Mauro's odd antics gained a lot of attention. In 1994 15 year old Tim VanHamel, who had a lot of experience from his band sister poo poo joined the evil superstars, creating the absurdist zappa-esque album Love is Okay. They toured europe as a support act for the more wellknown band dEUS, but in 1998 Mauro called it quits as their sales were not too great and despite good reviews they never got over their cult status.
Mauro has since then played in numerous bands, including Mitsoobishy Jacson, Kiss my Jazz, Monguito and Shadowgraphic City. He is currently a member of dEUS, The Love Substitutes, Othin Spake, Club Moral, Archetypes of the Multisabanas and I Hate Camera. Beside these projects, Mauro has released solo work under various aliasses: Mauro A. Pawlowski, Somnabula, while fronting a new group called Mauro Pawlowski & the Grooms.
For information on Tim VanHamel, there is a series planned.

God only knows
1966, written by Brian Wilson and Tony Asher
If you should ever leave me
Though life would still go on believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me
God only knows what I’d be without you
The album Pet sounds is regarded as the ultimate masterwork of songwriter/composer/musician Brian Wilson. In 1965 he quit touring with the band and focussed all his attention on this album. It was one of the main influences for the Beatles' sgt Pepper album.
Described by Paul McCartney as the "greatest song ever written", God only knows caused quite a bit of controvery when it was released, because of the usage of the word God. As a result of this controversy the song was banned from airplay on most radiostations. Religious zealots! Recently it was number 25 on Rolling Stone magazine's greatest love songs ever.
