Sinéad O'Connor

Troy
1987, written by Sinéad O'Connor

Oh, I love you
God, I love you
I'd kill a dragon for you and die

But I will rise
And I will return
The Phoenix from the flame

I have learned
I will rise
And you'll see me return

Being what I am
There is no other Troy
For me to burn

When most people think of Sinéad O'Connor, they remember a bald young woman with huge eyes that sings the tearjerker "nothing compares to you". Though the performance of Sinéad in that song is absolutely heartbreaking and touching, I feel Sinéad's debut album The lion and the Cobra gives a much better view of her talents as song writer and performer.

1987, written by Sinéad O'Connor and Steve Wickham

I can see too many mouths open
Too many eyes closed, ears closed
Not enough minds open
Too many legs open
Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, do
Why isn't it why why
I don't see why I listen, why, why

This album is mostly written by Sinéad herself, who at the time of recording was only 20 years old. It launched a very successful carreer with a lot of controversy (such as the famous incident where Sinéad ripped up a picture of the pope on live tv to protest against the catholic church).
